Project Overview
Most of us are familiar with the phrase, “If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.” Life provides numerous opportunities for people to become Bystanders OR Upstanders. It ultimately becomes a question of power, incentives, and choice. Throughout the course of this project you will dive head first into civil discourse and civic engagement. Not only will you become active members of society, you get to inform the public using objective and unbiased forms of communication. Most importantly you will discover that you have a voice and that your voice matters regardless of your age, gender, race or ethnicity!

- How do political campaigns/presidential elections seem to bring out the best and worst in people?
- How can U.S. Citizens receive balanced information and make informed decisions?
- How can teenagers take an active role in educating the public and spreading political awareness in their communities?
- You will have the opportunity to read The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande
- You will have the opportunity to analyze political cartoons, discuss their role throughout American History and create their own informative political cartoon.
- You will have the opportunity to explore candidates’ platforms on domestic and international issues
- You will have the opportunity to learn rhetorical devices and elements of speech and debate.
- You will have the opportunity to create spoken word poetry that expresses your hopes and/or fears for the future.

- Political Issues Tandem Spoken Word OR Rap Battle OR Team Debate
- Op-Doc on an American Political Issues/Platforms
- Divided We Stand Exhibition 4:30-6:00, Presidential Debate 6-7:30, Student Facilitated Town Hall 7:30-8:00!
