"Curiously enough, this did not strike her as an impossibly rash thing to do. She was used to judging people by their faces, and it seemed natural to her that Winston should believe O’Brien to be trustworthy on the strength of a single flash of the eyes. "

I doubt Katherine was taken by the thought police, winston mentions several times how loyal and stupid she is. As for the second question, I think it would be difficult, seeing as Julia is part of the anti-sex league, but they would probably try to get married anyways.

Throughout the book we have seen both Winston and Julia take incredible risks, so there is no telling what they could do next. And as for your second question I'm guessing that you are implying if they will show their affection for each other in public? If so then they probably won't since they will basically be murdered the moment they do so and I think that they wan't to be together as long as they can.
Rachel Mendelsohn

I believe that to show affection in public would be to make a political statement. While Winston has the awareness that would compel him to do so, Julia has no concern about anything that does not directly affect her. Their affair has not been prevented, so she has no motivation to make a suicidal political statement. I do not believe this will happen.

I think Winston knows what he does simply because he's been alive for a while and can fit the information he's seen together, also his job is falsifying information. Julia probably learned a bit of how the propaganda is made because she working the fiction department, but she also seems to understand the inner workings of the party (she's able to find meeting spots in crazy places) and I have no Idea how she does that, how would you know to look in the first place?
